During the 2008 election, Laird Stone, one of the Republican Central Committee Members had an Obama sign in his front yard while he was campaigning as a "Republican".
I've been pouring over information about this as this seemingly would have hit a cord with Twin Falls Precinct 8 voters, or did it? The guy won! As a "Republican"!
As the story goes, his contender, Jeremy S.Collins, had confronted him on the sign and the response: "the sign is my son's, it's a free country isn't it?". A search on magicvalley.com under "Laird Stone Obama" finds that a letter to the editor by a known Democrat, Karen McCarthy, confirms Stone indeed had the sign in his front yard.
McCarthy's well-written letter seems to help clear the air, saying that Stone is in fact a Republican and when his son leaves the house, then Stone again will be free to show his political flavor. What? Who runs that household anyway? For red-blooded conservatives, we have to wonder...how much rent does that boy pay!? It would be an awful lot just for that sign, one would expect.
But this is really just the tip of the iceberg as far as I'm concerned. If we are to believe that the sign is really his son's then and then we must dismiss all the prior year's rumors about Stone being a "closet Democrat". Case in point: If Stone allowed his son to post an Obama sign in the front yard why wouldn't Stone also post his favorite Republican sign in the yard too? But yet, it didn't happen.
One last question I have is: If this Twin Falls "Republican" is suppose to be a cheerleader for the Twin Falls Republican Party, and yet he can not even convince his own son that Republican ideals are better for the country, then how in the county could Stone convince his neighbors!?
It is doubtful he does it with an Obama sign.
“Well, What Do You Expect?”
