The Parade and Picnic Party

So a friend forwarded this link to me telling me about how the establishment party changed their by-laws to thwart those conservative "Ron Paulers" in 2008.

It seems noteworthy for the readers to point out how the establishment forced a change on how Delegates could vote at the State Convention.  Previously, Delegates were free to vote for whom they wanted, now it must be based upon how County Voters voted. The concern was that "Ron Paulers would overtake the party" and cast all votes at the State Convention for Paul.

The new wording reads: "In any issue regarding Idaho delegates to the National Republican Convention, Twin Falls County delegates must vote so as to reflect the votes cast by the Republican electorate in the county presidential preference primary."

While this certainly is noteworthy, I find the chicanery to be obvious enough so I won't go into it.  But I do find it interesting that the writer quotes the establishment's main concern as being "Paul supporters are trying to overtake the committee with ideology and haven't been active in local politics enough, particularly with the Lincoln Day banquets and a spring picnic, two of the biggest party events."

Ha!  Those darn idealists. Get in line and show up at a picnic!! "We don't talk policy here". I can see Ken Edmonds saying all this. Could it be that Magic Valley residents are craving real debate, true conservatism and a political party based upon principles instead of orchestrating the next potluck?

But interestingly enough, the establishment within the Twin Falls Republicans cared so much about those votes at the State Convention that they...only sent 24% of the elected body to go and vote?  That doesn't make sense.  They must have been busy planning their next picnic!

Last note; Ron Paul garnered 24% of the Idaho vote in 2008.  And so by the new By-Laws the elected Delegates should have been comprised of 24% Ron Paulers, or about 9 of the 38 (coincidentally the same number of people who bothered to attend the Convention).  Did they adhere to their own changes in their By-Laws?

I think we've made it clear that they did not.  They shut-out anyone outside the establishment circles (apparently those only who attend the picnics) from being elected as Delegates. It is a sticky mess of Elephant dung in there Ladies and Gentleman.  Support the Restoration!

  2. >The change, which passed 19 to 1, was recommended by a sub-committee. It reads: "In any issue regarding Idaho delegates to the National Republican Convention, Twin Falls County delegates must vote so as to reflect the votes cast by the Republican electorate in the county presidential preference primary."<

    >Three of the 29 Idaho delegates going to the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., hail from south-central Idaho. They are Hartgen and Chris Harriman of Burley, both unpledged, and Darlene Borman of Hailey, who has backed Sen. John McCain. Six of the state delegates are Paul-pledged. The convention is Sept. 1-4.<

Mr. Hartgen went to the RNC as an unpledged delegate (Note: This was in violation of his own county party rules that he voted for), Under the new rules passed by the Twin Falls County GOP Committee, Mr. Hartgen was under committee by-law orders to vote for Mr. McCain. This is just one of the many problems with this change made to the By Laws. Until the Committee by-laws are amended back to they way they were, Twin Falls County can no longer send delegates unpledged. This is just one of the many reasons Ken Edmonds, Precinct Committeeman # 25 must be term limited.

This is an amendment that should be considered by the GOP Committee:

    Section 4—DELEGATES
The Central Committee shall not “instruct” legally elected delegates as to the type of vote to be cast by each delegate. The Central Committee may “advise” legally elected delegates.

    Section 5—UNIT RULE
Delegates shall cast their votes independent of the will of the other members of the delegation and may not be compelled to vote under “unit rule”.
